Installations
As an artist Lena Braun works both in performing and visual arts. She re-enacts and re-stages biographies of female outlaws. In her installations you can walk around and see her performing, they create environments that revive history.
Her installation FEMALE FREAKS pays homage to female genius. Braun´s work showcases artists remaining true to themselves and their independence.
Since 2003 female biographies have been an important theme in Lena Braun´s artistic work. Based on research, she develops performances such as Shows á la carte (Barbie Deinhoff’s, Berlin, 2003-2006), Melancholie is Luxury (Neue Nationalbibliothek, Berlin, 2006), All about Eve II (Galerie Su de Coucou, Berlin, 2009) or Ladybird (Galerie Su de Coucou, Berlin, 2012/2013) and produces concepts for exhibitions, e.g. Hommage á Anita (Kunstraum Kreuzberg/ Bethanien, Berlin, 2008), Like Her (Galerie Neurotitan, Haus Schwarzenberg/Berlin, 2008), Without Her (Landesbibliothek Potsdam, 2010) or DIVAMANIA (Reinraum, Düsseldorf, 2013).
FEMALE FREAKS, her new work, merges these elements in an extended installation:
While the exhibition - including screenprints, collages, mixed media work and objects - provides insight into the artist´s iconography, the performance re-stages the historical dimension.
Herstory
Lena Braun has an MA in communication sciences and literature from Freie Universität Berlin. She is well known as an artist and curator due to her galleries in Berlin: Galerie Bichette, Galerie Loulou Lasard, Boudoir, Barbie Deinhoffs, studioxxberlin, Galerie Su de Coucou. Lena Braun has exhibited and performed internationally, in Berlin, Stettin, Wien, Oslo, New York.
